Mini Butterfly Crochet Pattern - Sunday Afternoon Crafting

I just think these little butterflies are perfect for so many things... embellishments for accessories, greetings cards, garlands and decorations and a never ending list of other craft projects.  And... is it just me or is there something extra satisfying about having the same of something, but in different sizes or colours.  I often find it while clothes shopping! Buying the same item in more than one colour some how makes me love it all the more??! Anyway... crochet butterflies!!!

I made these lovelies using:
  • different shades of Pattons Smoothie DK
  • a natural shade of cotton of a similar thickness (any contrasting colour will do)
  • 4mm hook
This pattern is for the mini (very smallest pictured) of the butterflies.

Pattern abbreviations (UK terminology)
ml - magic loop
sl st - slip stitch
ch - chain
tr - treble crochet

Now draw your magic loop in really tight.

Now to make the body just wrap some contrasting colour yarn around the middle 4 or 5 times and tie it in a double knot at the top.

Trim the ends of that body yarn to the right length for antenna.

Darn or weave the ends in and you now have a tiny butterfly!

I'll post the other sizes really soon. :-)
